We extract minerals, generate power, move freight and build districts. Each of those activities leaves a mark — our responsibility is to make that mark a net positive for the places that host us.
Our Approach
Substance over statements
A holding group that mines gold, burns no coal, ships freight and builds cities cannot reduce sustainability to a slogan. Our approach is specific to each business: rehabilitation bonds and water stewardship in mining, lifecycle carbon accounting in energy, fuel transition in shipping, and embodied-carbon limits in construction.
What unifies them is verification. Every figure on this page is drawn from our annual Group Sustainability Report, independently assured and published in full — including the numbers that are not yet where we want them to be.

Framework
Three pillars, audited annually
Environment
- Group-wide net-zero roadmap adopted in 2026, with interim 2032 targets reviewed by an independent climate panel.
- Progressive mine rehabilitation: land is recontoured and revegetated during operations, not after closure. 640 hectares restored to date at Sierra Dorada alone.
- Zero process-water discharge at both producing mines, with tailings stored in downstream-constructed facilities audited annually against GISTM.
Social
- The Blanco Foundation funds vocational training centres in Arequipa, Ghanzi and Valencia, graduating 1,800 technicians since 2016 — with no obligation to join the group.
- Local-first employment: 91% of mine and terminal workforces are hired from host regions, with leadership development tracks at every site.
- Community water infrastructure co-funded with municipalities near our Peruvian operations now serves 34,000 residents.
Governance
- Sustainability outcomes carry a 25% weighting in executive incentive plans, verified by the audit committee.
- Annual reporting aligned with GRI Standards and TCFD recommendations, assured by an independent third party since 2021.
- A group-wide responsible sourcing programme covering 2,300 suppliers, with human-rights due diligence aligned to OECD guidance.
