About Us

Seventeen years of deliberate growth

BlancoGlobal has never raised outside equity, never sold a core business and never reported a loss-making year. This is how a trading desk founded in a crisis became a global holding group.

Our Story

From one desk on Calle de Alcalá

In 2009, with credit markets frozen and commodity desks closing across Europe, brothers Mateo and Adrián Blanco began brokering copper concentrate from a rented office in central Madrid. They had two laptops, a network of smelter contacts and a simple conviction: physical assets, held patiently, outperform paper traded quickly.

That conviction shaped every decision since. When shipping costs threatened margins, the firm chartered its own vessels. When a concession came up at a fraction of replacement cost, it became a miner. When its mines needed power, it built plants. Each division exists because the group needed it first — and grew because others needed it too.

Today BlancoGlobal remains wholly owned by the founding family and its employees. Independence is not a slogan for us; it is the structural reason we can hold assets through cycles others cannot.

Milestones

A history measured in decades

2009

Founded in Madrid

In the depths of the financial crisis, Mateo Blanco and his brother Adrián open a two-person metals trading desk on Calle de Alcalá, brokering copper concentrate between Chilean producers and European smelters.

2012

First mining concession

The firm acquires a distressed gold concession in Peru’s Arequipa region — the future Sierra Dorada complex — and shifts from trading metal to producing it.

2015

Entry into logistics

Chronic shipping bottlenecks for our own concentrate lead to the charter of two handysize bulkers, the seed of what becomes Blanco Logistics.

2017

Puerto Alba acquisition

The group takes a majority stake in the Puerto Alba container terminal in Valencia, its first piece of permanent infrastructure.

2019

Blanco Energy established

A dedicated energy division is created with the purchase of a 90 MW wind portfolio in Galicia, beginning an accelerated renewables build-out.

2021

Real estate division formed

Blanco Estates is launched with the winning bid for the Meridian Quarter regeneration in Madrid — fourteen hectares of former rail yards.

2024

2 GW renewables milestone

Full commissioning of the North Reach offshore wind array takes the operating clean-energy fleet past two gigawatts.

2026

Net-zero roadmap adopted

The board approves a group-wide decarbonisation plan with independently verified interim targets for 2032.

Governance

Private ownership, institutional discipline

Being privately held does not mean being loosely run. The group is governed by a nine-member board — four of them independent non-executives drawn from mining, energy and infrastructure — which meets eight times a year and holds sole authority over capital allocations above €50 million.

Audit, remuneration and sustainability committees are each chaired by an independent director. Group accounts are audited to IFRS standards and shared in full with lenders, host governments and rating agencies, even where no listing obligation requires it.

A family ownership council, separate from the board, governs succession and long-term shareholding policy — ensuring the questions of the next generation never crowd out the decisions of the current one.
